Went to Jeroen’s Farewell fishing trip last saturday
by yasiph
Went to my last fishing trip with Jeroen last saturday which was also his farewell party. Jeroen was the Country Manager for Handicap International and he was a Dutch, mad about fishing. Aside from his work in the disAbility work throughout the Maldives, he loves fishing. Which was one of the reason he invited us all to T-Jetty on saturday evening. He was leaving for Cambodia on yet another mission, and his job has been taken over by Lucy Roberts, who worked here earlier and I first saw her as a disAbility Advisor for Ministry of Gender and Family, back when the disAbility Policy was being made in 2005. Jeroen’s contribution to the local community is priceless. He has been lobbying for disAbility in meetings, activities and projects all around in Maldives. I hope, one day soon enough, I’d be able to give him the news that Maldives has ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD).
He was a good friend and a great fisherman. I, Ati, Issey and everyone who’ve went fishing with him had a great time. I would also like to thank him for his generous fishing gear. His dream of landing a sailfish/marlin may have been difficult. But his sailfish lure, which he gave us, to get ‘that’ Sailfish will definately be used and Ati and myself, are pretty damn sure, we’ll catch that fish someday.
We hope Jeroen and his family(Karen, Olivia and the twins; Yannick and Loulou) would have a wonderful time in Cambodia. Thank you from all of us here. May Allah bless you all.
